From time to time, manufacturers of the technical products we sell, issue Product Recalls for various reasons. Any relevant recalls will be listed on this page.
Concerns all GRIGRI 2s (D14 2O, D14 2G, D14 2B ) with the first five digits of the serial number between 10326 and 11136.
Fault - Petzl has discovered that exerting excessive force on the fully extended handle of the GRIGRI 2 can cause internal damage, such that the GRIGRI 2 handle may become stuck in the open position.
Rectification - Because the safety of our users is our primary concern, as a measure of precaution Petzl has decided to take the following actions: - increase the mechanical strength of the handle on all GRIGRI2s since serial number 11137. - recall all GRIGRI 2s with the first five digits of the serial number between 10326 and 11136, and replace with a new revised GRIGRI 2. Petzl will pay for all shipping costs to complete this replacement.
If you have purchased one of these units from OutdoorGearStore, please return it to Petzl Australia as per the following.
If you possess a GRIGRI 2 (D14 2O, D14 2G, D14 2B) with the first five digits of the serial number between 10326 and 11136 please initiate an exchange by mailing it with your contact details to:

This is a Precautionary Recall. EDELRID have detected a potential problem on the EDELRID Turtle Vario C harness where the buckle on the waist belt could in individual cases loosen. An analysis of this potential situation has revealed that this possibility can only happen in an unloaded situation i.e. only when the harness is being put on or taken off. This only involves the waist belt buckle of this harness type.
EDELRID guarantees the quality and safety of all its products. All our harnesses are checked under the strictest test criteria. Therefore to avoid any risk to our customers, as the Australian distributor of EDELRID climbing equipment we are recalling the Turtle Vario C, as precautionary measure for re-examination. The harnesses (Turtle Vario C 71642), affected by this recall are solely from the batch numbers ”HC (0)1“ and “GC 008 2008“ or ”GC 009 2008”. The batch number can be found on the inside of the waist belt or on the products technical data sheet supplied on delivery. All harnesses with the additional marking ”GC 11 09” have been already examined regarding this potential problem and comply with our quality and safety standards.
All owners of this product are requested to send their harness promptly for a free examination to Outdoor Agencies Pty Ltd at the above address. Freight costs incurred for the return of your product will of course be reimbursed.

It has come to our attention at Trango that one hundred #5 Big Bros made in March and October 2008 have improperly aligned inner tubes. Through an error in CNC machining, the inner sleeves on these units are rotated slightly to the side. This rotation causes the ends of the unit to be slightly out of parallel. Although barely noticeable in use, this off center orientation is not to spec and should be corrected. It could cause additional instability in some placements, particularly more parallel-sided cracks. As always, climber safety is our top priority, so, we are recommending that all recent #5 owners inspect their units, and if they are out of spec, return them to us at Trango for replacement of the inner tube. See below for instructions on identifying the problem. #5 Big Bros manufactured before March 2008 and all other sizes are not affected. We greatly appreciate your support in finding and returning the offending units to us. It is our highest priority to make the repairs and return them to you as soon as possible. Our manufacturer is already working on replacement inner tubes so that we can complete the repairs as we receive units back. These units are not batch marked, so the out of spec units must be identified by visual inspection. If the unit was delivered to the shop or purchased before March 2008, then it's fine. If it was delivered to the shop after March 2008, then it will have the flaw. If it was purchased after that date, but was from stock received prior to that, then it too is fine. If you're unsure of the purchase date, please check your Big Bro or call us at Trango.
This is an ALERT only, not a RECALL. Due to advances in the performance characteristics of AA/LR6 rechargeable batteries (especially their higher output during discharge), they can in certain cases of intensive use, cause quality and safety problems with MYO-series headlamps. When the headlamp is used with AA/LR6 rechargeable batteries, if a short-circuit appears in the cable connecting the battery case to the lamp, the cable can spark, melt, or catch fire. This poses a burn hazard to the user.
The number of reported incidents is very low, representing 0.004% of total MYO headlamps sold. Nevertheless, this rate of incidence does not meet our standards of reliability and safety.
As a result, Petzl has decided to alert end users and to take the necessary corrective actions.
If you own SARKEN crampons (any binding system, black or orange color metallic parts):
If you have a Ball-Lock carabiner with the metal sleeve, check the batch number engraved on the spine of the carabiner. Affected product will display a number between 06076 and 06178. If you have any affected product, you may:
1. Inspect it following the simple procedure below, or return it to the place of purchase or to Petzl Australia for inspection and possible replacement.
2. If you do your own inspection, you may return any non-conforming product to the place of purchase or to Petzl Australia for replacement.
Black Diamond Equipment Ltd. has a voluntary recall on its “Speed Buckle Harness” for mountain and rock climbing as reported by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission - Black Diamond’s “Speed Buckle Harness” could be threaded incorrectly. If that’s the case the webbing starts slipping when loaded. Incorrectly threaded buckles can loosen and cause climbers to slip out of the harness and fall. So far no accidents have been reported.
