How to fit the SCARPA INSTINCT:  Choosing the right size is crucial for function!

Many climbers use to downsize their climbing shoes as much as possible to get a tight and precise fit. This obviously results in a loss of comfort because the foot gets compressed and that makes it difficult to wear them for an extended time. Another result of compression is that the shoe gets very stiff and inflexible.

The Instinct was developed following a different concept that combines performance with comfort like no other climbing shoe. Thanks to a new innovative last shape it fits tight enough where it needs to edge, but in the same time there’s extra internal volume (in other areas) so the foot is not as compressed as usual and able to adapt to different climbing situations, from smearing to gripping holds on overhangs and bouldering.

But! given the comfort, the Instinct tricks people to downsize even more than other climbing shoes. The result is not only a loss of comfort, but also a loss of performance! The Instinct works best in a semi extended toe position, which means the toes are slightly curved, still having freedom to move and adapt to various footholds and positions.

We recommend to downsize at the maximum 1.5 sizes from street shoe size. For climbers who use other Scarpa models we recommend to continue with the same sizing, not smaller.
